Hendrick Ramaala Sports Foundation is a non -profit organisation founded and headed by Hendrick Ramaala; four times Olympian, seven times IAAF World Track and Field Championship participant, two times IAAF World Half Marathon silver medallist, 2004 New York Champion, two times third placer in London Marathon and South African 10 00m and Half Marathon record holder.

The Foundation has an ambitious aim of making South African distance running a dominant force in the world. It is inspired by the Nike Oregon Project headed by Alberto Salazar, former New York and Boston Marathon Champion; the head coach of Olympic Champions Mo Farah, Galen Rupp and Mat Centrowitz.

South Africa has raw talent for distance running; altitude and world class facilities. In the 1970s and 80s South African distance running enjoyed its golden years. Our aim is to resurrect that era.

We are based in Johannesburg where we house, feed, train and coach a selected group of South African best distance runners. We help them to qualify and prepare for World, Olympics, Commonwealth and big city road, track and cross country races. Our members include: Desmond Mokgobu( 2 times World Championships marathon participant, a 2:09.31 personal best in marathon and winner of 2018 Beppu Marathon in Japan); Precious Mashele( South African Cross Country and 10km Champion for 2018); Maxime Chaumeton( 2017 South African Cross Country Youth silver medallist)

In the past we also trained Lungile Gongqa(2017 Two Oceans Marathon Champion); Sbu Nzima; Lebo and Lebogang Phalula and Xolisa Tyali and Folavio Sehohle.

We also have a group of young talented runners whom we are preparing for future Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Championships. We recruit our talent from villages, townships and town all over South Africa.

We believe in South African talent!

End.
