Our boys were well motivated when starting the 2018 base training in December 2017 after NN Global announced us as one of the key base camps to their global team. The results of the base training saw Precious and Max qualify to represent SA at the X-country African champs. Following that was Desmond's hard-fought win at the Beppu-Oita Marathon in Japan in time 2:09:31. The coach himself had a lot to say about this particular win on the coach's corner, especially the finish! Precious had come out of a European tour that saw him lower his PB to 61:48 in France.
March was an important month for our ultramarathon runners who did not dissapoint. Raphael finished 6th on his first attempt at the Old Mutual Two Oceans marathon (56km) in time 3:12:21. Motsamai continued on an improvement spree finishing in 3:31:09 (15 minutes improvement from his previous attempt). Both their effort help their club with the 1st open male team prize.
Precious maintained his dominance on cross by defending his national title. He would later win the 10km nation road title. Our Comrades marathon runner would post a 2-hour PB on the down run as he continued to improve in his running. Motsamai posted a 6:23:15 to finish 58th at the 90km distance.
Preparations for the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon were in full swing and the boys did not disappoint. Desmond had to overcome mishap at the start of the race to post a 2:14:13 for 10th place. He was not to be counted out on the day were South African marathon runners performed well. A very notable perfomance from a the school teach, Pharsons, as he debuted with a 2:20:46 at the distance. Representing the CGA province, Motsamai improved his marathon PB by more than 5 minutes with a 2:27:17 finish time. His effort proved important as it help the provincial team finish 2nd in the team standings.
Maxime ran a 30:29 PB to win the junior category whilst Precious defended his 10km title with a 29:11 cruise. Business well taken care of boys.
Our trio of Xolisa, Precious and Des tormented and dominated races across the country they prepared for major competitions.
Precious returned to France's Bolougne-Billancourt half-marathon to post a 61:18 PB and 2018 season's national lead for 3rd position. We are getting somewhere with this kid.
We look forward to more wins, PBs, leading times and money in 2019!
